Artist Statement

A painter for twenty years, award-winning watercolor artist Amy (Miskiewicz) McKay is originally from Baltimore, Maryland, where she attended the Maryland Institute, College of Art, and graduated with a landscape architecture degree at the University of Maryland, College Park. Amy began her painting under the late Sr. Mary Jacque Benner, RSM in 1988, quickly selling her very first watercolor paintings. This good fortune has continued with her since the beginning. While enjoying a career as a landscape architect, she has also continued to forge her reputation as a successful artist in the fascinating and diverse world of watercolor. Amy has studied with recognized artists Frank Webb, Judi Betts,Don Andrews, Pat Weaver, Tom Lynch, Cheng Khee Chee, and most recently watercolor portrait artists Suzanna Winton and Janet Rogers.

She is a member of the Tidewater Art Alliance, Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists and an associate member of both the Florida Watercolor Society. She has recently been juried into and received awards from the Northwest Florida Arts Council, The Tidewater Artist Association, The Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists and the Florida Watercolor Society. Recent shows include the Adirondacks National Exhibit in New York, the Florida Watercolor Society 38th Annual Exhibition in Punta Gorda, Florida, and the Baltimore Watercolor Society Exhibition held at Strathmore Hall in Bethesda, Maryland. She is currently the 2009-2010 president of the Chesapeake Bay Watercolorists.

Her paintings are found in private collections across the country and in Europe. She has been hailed as an artist worth collecting at several recent exhibitions. Amy enjoys sharing her knowledge of watercolor with students and she currently resides in Norfolk, Virginia.
